The Whole Person Approach Presented by The Reciprocity Foundation www.reciprocityfoundation.org
The Homeless System Works for Some, Not All • Invisible homeless, Chronic homeless, hidden abuse, undiagnosed illnesses
The System is Too Large to Completely Overhaul • Youth go from street outreach to crisis to TLP to… lesser dependence • Full independence is still very rare
What can we do? Innovate within the System • Reciprocity is a 6-year experiment in creating entirely different solutions • No boundaries on what is possible
Reciprocity Principle #1 Work with the Whole Person • Emotional, intellectual, spiritual, physical, material needs must all be addressed for youth to transform
Reciprocity Principle #2 Work from the Inside Out • Help youth tap into their inner wisdom • Transformation from within
Reciprocity Principle #3 Growth is Client Led • Clients determine journey • Readiness is everything
Is this Really New? • Usually Donors set agenda, not youth • Typically work on external issues, internal lags or excluded • Support is contingent
Training Front-Line Staff & Managers • 1 or 2-day sessions to apply Whole Person approach to outreach, intake, counseling, program design, etc. Community Screenings/Fundraisers • Reciprocity filmmakers can screen the film to raise money for your programs in your community
