WORLD CLIMATE CONFERENCE - 3 ESTABLISHES A GLOBAL FRAMEWORK FOR CLIMATE SERVICES (GFCS) Geneva, 3 September 2009 – World Climate Conference-3 (WCC-3), which brought together around 2500 climate scientists, sectoral experts and decision-makers, established a Global Framework for Climate Services “to strengthen production, availability, delivery and application of science-based climate prediction and services.” 2

The Work Program of the Taskforce • Finalise a report by mid-January 2011 that will: • Review current state of climate services framework • Identify gaps in the current climate services framework • Consult widely • Recommend options for the implementation of the Global Framework for Climate Services that addresses the gaps and is sustainable • The WMO Congress will respond the report at its May 2011 Session. • The UN Secretary-General will also receive the report 14
