  1. Postmortem

  2. Characters • Dr. Kay Scarpetta- Chief Medical Examiner (she rocks socks!) • Pete Marino- Detective (I’m still unsure of what to think of him but he’s cool) • Benton Wesley- Profiler (he’s cool) • Dr. Alvin Amburgey- Commissioner (Warning there seems to be no redeeming qualities here. He’s just too horrible to Dr. Scarpetta) • Norman Tanner- something to do with the police (evil minion of Amburgey… well I don’t have proof but he feels like it) • Bill Boltz- “Hot” guy dating Dr. Scarpetta, the Common Wealth Attorney (Prosecutor) (he’s ok in the beginning and then it all comes out) • Abby Turnbull- Newspaper reporter (she’s not as bad as you might first think)

  3. A Serial killer stalks women in Richmond Virginia Single Ladies lock your windows because a monster has been killing women in the early hours of Saturday morning. He ties them from neck to ankles and watches them suffocate to death. • Works for the call center for the police • Killed four women • Attempted to kill a fifth • Used a bowie knife to threaten the women • Tied them up and raped them watching them strangle to death as he did so (except for the fifth) • Has Maple Syrup Urine Disease (basically he smells like maple syrup) • Age 24

  4. Sub-Plots Galore • Leaks to the press • The Boyfriend of Kay raped a well known reporter (this comes to light when the reporter’s sister becomes another victim • Possible miss placed or tampered with evidence

  5. Dr. Kay Scarpetta Our Chief Medical Examiner has to deal with: • Politics (I.E Amburgey trying to frame her) • Catching a Serial killer • Boltz being scum • A scarily smart niece • Said Serial killer climbing into her bedroom and him being killed • Her sister (she should not have custody, just saying) • Thinking she’s going nuts because of the broken chain of evidence (Thanks to Amburgey) • Finding out that Boltz drugged and raped Abby Turnbull • Amburgey manufacturing evidence to make Dr. Scarpetta seem incompitent Boy, what a month!

  6. Technical stuff • P.O.V: fist person (Dr. Scarpetta) • Author's purpose: to write an interesting crime drama by using her own job as a template (think Bones) • Intended audience: anyone interested in forensic crime investigations

  7. Would I recommend this book? yes, but only if you’re into crime novels and political intrigue. This should also come with a warning: my mother read enough of these to make herself paranoid (we can’t live on the first floor). This would be because the criminals Scartpetta’s after tend to find their way through her window and into her bedroom. You have been warned… Seriously though it’s a good book anyone who’s interested should give it a shot.
