Key Points Behaviorism- prediction or control of human behavior where independent thinking takes no part in teaching methods (Shelly 368) Palvov-Classical Conditioning : using natural reflex in response to stimulus (Shelly 368) Skinner – Operant Conditioning : using reinforcements or punishments after voluntary behavior (Shelly 369) Bandura– Observational Modeling : when one watches something then mimics it (Shelly 370) GOMS Model – attempt to model and predict user behavior through : goals, operators, methods, selection rules (Learning-Theories.com)
Using Behaviorism as Teachers: As teachers, they use behaviorism in giving students either congratulations or a treat to reinforce behaviors, or to give detentions or criticize as negative reinforcement, a student completes all homework on time the student receives a “homework pass” Within technology, when students get answers right on quizzes they can get a “correct” with a positive sound or a “wrong” with a negative sound
What Students Do Under Behaviorism Students work for things that bring them positive feelings, or for approval from people they admire or to prevent negative feelings. They change the behaviors to satisfy the desires they have learned to value.
Within My Art Teaching Career I believe that I can use this theory to control the behavior of my students in terms of tardiness and turning in assignments on time. Since art classes don’t usually have regular quizzes or tests, participation and turning assignments in on time will be the controlling factor within the classroom.
