  2. What is Project Pericles? The Project Pericles Fellowship Program at Pace University is  an selective, co-curricular, experiential collaboration for students who seek to explore & nurture skills in social responsibility, civic participation and advocacy. The fellowship uses workshops, mentoring and practical experience to encourage self-awareness, development of civic knowledge and actionable skills, and hands-on community engagement.  

  3. Who can apply? Applicants must be matriculated, second semester freshman, sophmore or junior with a GPA of 2.5 or above

  4. At its core, the leadership program encourages a hands-on engagement with the notion of Democracy in Action Who can apply?

  5. Periclean Fellows learn valuable leadership skills through: • Civic participation • Community action • Advocacy for social change

  6. Civic Values Fellows attend and reflect upon at least two foundation workshops • Potential topics: • Self-Awareness and Citizenship • Critical thinking for social and political issues • Democracy and Governmental Structure • Citizenship around the word

  7. Why participate? “The Project Pericles Leadership Certificate program gave me a chance to explore just how I wanted to go about working to improve my campus community and experience. I appreciate the range of freedom I had in the projects that I was able to plan, and the advising that I received equipped me with the skills that I needed to plan the first Pace Makes a Difference Day: Spring Edition. CCAR Events The Center for Community Action and Research (CCAR) hosts many different types of education activities and events for you to become informed about and get engaged in social issues, like: • Awareness activities: Fun games that help you to understand a social issue • Common Hour Convos: Common hour discussion periods about hot button topics. Free pizza is always served! • Guest speakers • Movie screenings Periclean fellows must attend and reflect upon nine CCAR events to build their foundation of civic knowledge and participation

  9. Civic Action Proposal Have an idea for a civic issue you would like to work on? The “action section” of your fellowship allows you to work with a mentor to choose an area of personal interest to you and organize a service or advocacy project related to it. For example, you can plan a Voter Registration Drive, lead a volunteer group to help a cause you believe in, or organize an event to call attention to issues such as gun violence, hunger, or educational reform. Make a plan to make a difference.

  10. Civic Action Foundation Workshops Enrolled students will participate in two training and workshops sessions, as well as receive individual mentoring. Topics covered may include: • Building coalitions • How to plan a project • Public speaking and influencing government.

Why participate? “Project Pericles has presented me with the opportunity to truly enhance my leadership skills through various workshops and introduced me to organizations/people who are doing great work in their communities.   12. Take action to change your world. Periclean Fellows participate and reflect upon in three “actions” of their choosing: - Debating for Democracy - Workshops - Alternative Spring Break - Research - Faculty Assistants for Civic Engagement - Civic Engagement

  13. “Being a part of Project Pericles was one of the most valuable aspects of my Pace career. It allowed me to join with other Pace students in expressing views on politics, current events, and on-campus issues. I felt a strong camaraderie with the other Project Pericles members, and learning about their views raised my consciousness on topics that I would not have been informed on otherwise. This allowed me to grow personally and professionally. Moreover, the program was important to me because of the Project Pericles coordinators, who were always available for us; through their guidance, they helped us turn our ideas into action.   14. Capstone Project & Presentation • Work one-on-one with a faculty mentor to launch your project and reflect on the connections between citizenship and social action.
