Travel, Learn and Live Overseas • Where can I study abroad? • Almost anywhere! • Fall 2010, SHIP students will be in Argentina, Austria, Denmark, England, Germany, Korea, Prague and Spain • Summer 2010, Ship students went to Austria, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland and Spain
Travel, Learn and Live Overseas • Where can I study abroad? • Within the past three years, SHIP students have also traveled and studied in countries such as: Austria, China, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates • Possibilities are endless!
Travel, Learn and Live Overseas • Why would I want to study abroad? • Why not? • The world is at your fingertips • See some of the greatest wonders in the world • Get away for a semester, year or even three weeks in the summer and earn academic credit while doing it • SHIP is a great place but there are so many things you can do and see while in college

Travel, Learn and Live Overseas • Who can study abroad? • Any major can study abroad • Planning early is essential • Some majors allow studying abroad only during certain semesters • Examples include majors such as Elementary Education, Sciences, Accounting and Social Work
Travel, Learn and Live Overseas • Who can study abroad? • First year and transfer students may be advised on studying abroad their first semester at SHIP • Eligibility for studying abroad is: • SHIP Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher • 30 credits (traditional freshmen year complete) • Being in good academic and judicial standing • The earliest a first semester student may study abroad is FALL 2011, which would be the first semester of his/her sophomore year
Travel, Learn and Live Overseas • How do I get started? • Attend a Study Abroad 101 Session • Beginning September 2 at 3:30 in DHC 102 • Sessions are hosted weekly in September and October • More details are provided about the process of going abroad including types of programs, costs, passports, flights, housing, etc.
Travel, Learn and Live Overseas How do I get started continued? • Contact a Study Abroad Ambassador • Ambassadors’ info is listed on Int’l Programs website • www.ship.edu/international • Talk to friends, family members, faculty members or other adults who have traveled or studied abroad
Travel, Learn and Live Overseas • One Final Piece of Info- • Many SHIP students that study abroad… • Do not have passports prior to the experience • Have never been on an international flight • Have never been to a foreign country • Receive financial aid including loans and grants • Do not have 4.0 Grade Point Averages • Bottom Line: You don’t have to have prior international experiences, perfect grades OR tons of money to study abroad
