An example is provided on the next page:
How to Analyze (Research) Notes Steps for Analysis of Notes: • Use a highlighter to underline key terms or words from your source. • In the analysis note section, explain why the key term or word is important/significant to understanding the topic. (sometimes it is important to define a new term too) • Determine the overall idea the source tries to communicate on the topic you are learning about. (identify the main idea)
4. What are the main ideas presented about the topic. (reduce) • What inferences can you make about the topic based upon the information given by the source? (how were people or events affected?) • What connections/Comparisons can you make between the information you have just learned and other information you already have about the topic? • Are there any steps or stages present to organize the new information? • What conclusions can you make about the topic? What is your opinion after learning about the topic?
