Polish NG:Report • PNG Representatives, mandate 2016-2018 Krystyna Szafraniec (chair), Alicja Cicha-Mikołajczyk (vice-chair), Kinga Sałapa (treasurer), Renata Majewska (webmaster) • Membership 2016 • 94 registered, 75 paid membership fee (among them 2 students, 10 retired) • Membership 2017 • 63 total, including 5 students, 10 retired • Membership 2018 • 62 total, including 5 students, 10 retired • Course Organisation • 2-day course entitled “Statistical methods and models for analysis of multiple events and competing risks data”, September 25-26, 2017, Krakow • Speaker Tomasz Burzykowski, Professor of Biostatistics/ Bioinformatics at the Center for Statistics of Hasselt University (Belgium) and at the Medical University of Bialystok (Poland) • 38 participants,18 members of PNG,16 participants from abroad • Seminars Organisation • Educational seminar organised for non-statisticians, lectures given by members of PNG: „Pitfalls in Medical Statistics”organised within the Xth Conference on Preventive Cardiology, November 17-18, 2017, Krakow, • Regular meetings: December 15, 2017, Kraków; June 22, 2018, organised by members of PNG from Medical University of Silesia in Sosnowiec • PNG Life Short Summary • Since this year, regular Summer Meetings have been planned to hold in different academic places, home institutions of PNG members • We made some steps toward 2020 Annual ISCB Conference in Krakow • Next regular meeting is scheduled for December 2018 in Krakow

2018 ISCB Conference Awards for ScientistsReport by Zdeněk Valenta • Applicants • The NG SC received a total of 14 eligible applications for the Conference Awards for Scientists (CASc), up from 5 applications last year and 10 in 2016. A nice geographic diversity was achieved this year • The applicants represented 11 countries of Cameroon (1), Kenya (1), India (1), Nigeria (2), South Africa (1), Bangladesh (3), Czech Republic (1), Lebanon (1), China (1), Turkey (1) and Costa Rica (1) • The SC appears to be moving in the right direction by attracting the applications from largely non-EU countries • Winners • The NG SC decided to grant three ISCB CASc awards in 2018 • The highest score earned the submission by Marek Brabecfrom the Czech Republic. His winning contribution was entitled ‘Semiparametric model for short term effects of air pollution upon asthma symptoms exacerbations’ and earned 43 points out of 50 possible • The second winning application by Anower Hossain from Bangladesh was entitled ‘Analysing time to event outcomes in cluster randomised trials using cluster-level analysis methods’ and earned 40 points • A third winning application was submitted by Samer A. Kharroubifrom Lebanon. It was entitled ‘Bayesian nonparametric estimation of HRQoL from preference data, and a new utility measure for Two Condition-Specific Measures (Asthma and Overactive Bladder)’ and earned 39 points • Congratulation to the 2018 CASc Award winners!
