Starting Word • Click the Start button on the Windows taskbar, point to All Programs on the Start menu, point to Microsoft Office on the All Programs submenu, and then point to Microsoft Office Word 2003 on the Microsoft Office submenu • Click Microsoft Office Word 2003 • If the Word window is not maximized, double-click its title bar to maximize it
Customizing the Word Window • To close the Language bar, right-click it to display a shortcut menu with a list of commands • Click Close on the Language bar on the shortcut menu • If the Getting Started task pane is displayed, click the Close button in the upper-right corner of the task pane • If the toolbar buttons are displayed on one row, click the Toolbar Options button • Click Show Buttons on Two Rows in the Toolbar Options list
Speech Recognition and Handwriting Recognition • With the Office Speech Recognition software installed and a microphone, you can speak the names of toolbar buttons, menus, menu commands, list items, alerts, and dialog box controls. You can also dictate text, such as words and sentences • Language bar
Increasing the Font Size Before Typing • Click the Font Size box arrow on the Formatting toolbar • Click 22 in the Font Size list
Typing Text • Type Thrilling Speeds and then press the PERIOD (.) key three times. If you make an error while typing, press the BACKSPACE key until you have deleted the text in error and then retype the text correctly • Press the ENTER key • Press the PERIOD (.) key three times. Type Roaring Crowds and then press the ENTER key
Entering Blank Lines into a Document • Press the ENTER key three times
Displaying Formatting Marks • If it is not selected already, click the Show/Hide ¶ button on the Standard toolbar
Typing More Text • Press the CAPS LOCK key on the keyboard to turn on capital letters. Verify the CAPS LOCK indicator is lit on the keyboard • Type GRAND PRIX RACE PACKAGES and then press the CAPS LOCK key to turn off capital letters • Press the ENTER key twice
Using Wordwrap • Type Four-day, three-night packages include airfare, deluxe and then press the SPACEBAR
Entering Text that Scrolls the Document Window • Type accommodations and amenities, compact car rental, a Formula One Grand Prix program, and great reserved seats for all race events. • Press the ENTER key twice
Checking Spelling as You Type • Type Race events feture and then press the SPACEBAR. • Position the mouse pointer in the flagged word (feture, in this case) • Right-click the flagged word, feture. • Click feature on the shortcut menu
Entering More Text • Press the END key to move the insertion point to the end of the line • Type all practice and qualifying sessions, the drivers’ parade, and the gripping Formula One Grand Prix. • Press the ENTER key twice. • Type Call Beacon Travel at 555-2299.
Saving a New Document • With a USB flash drive connected to one of the computer’s ports, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar • Type Grand Prix Announcement in the File name text box. Do not press the ENTER key after typing the file name • Click the Save in box arrow • Click USB flash drive in the Save in list • Click the Save button in the Save As dialog box
Selecting Multiple Paragraphs • Press CTRL+HOME; that is, press and hold down the CTRL key, press the HOME key, and then release both keys • Move the mouse pointer to the left of the first paragraph to be selected until the mouse pointer changes to a right-pointing block arrow • Drag downward until both paragraphs are selected
Changing the Font Size of Text • With the text selected, click the Font Size box arrow on the Formatting toolbar • Click the down scroll arrow on the Font Size scroll bar until 36 appears in the list • Click 36 in the Font Size list
Changing the Font of Text • With the text selected, click the Font box arrow on the Formatting toolbar and then scroll through the Font list until Cooper Black (or a similar font) is displayed • Click Cooper Black (or a similar font)
Right-Aligning a Paragraph • Click somewhere in the paragraph to be right-aligned • Click the Align Right button on the Formatting toolbar
Centering a Paragraph • Click somewhere in the paragraph to be centered • Click the Center button on the Formatting toolbar
Undoing and Redoing an Actions • Click the Undo button on the Standard toolbar • Click the Redo button on the Standard toolbar
Selecting a Line • Move the mouse pointer to the left of the line to be selected (in this case, GRAND PRIX RACE PACKAGES) until it changes to a right-pointing block arrow and then click
Formatting a Line of Text • With the text selected, click the Font box arrow on the Formatting toolbar and then scroll to Arial Black (or a similar font) in the list. Click Arial Black (or a similar font) • With the text selected, click the Font Size box arrow on the Formatting toolbar and then click 24 in the list
Italicizing Text • With the text still selected, click the Italic button on the Formatting toolbar
Underlining a Word • Click somewhere in the word to be underlined (deluxe, in this case) • Click the Underline button on the Formatting toolbar
Scrolling • Click below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar nine times
Selecting a Group of Words • Position the mouse pointer immediately to the left of the first character of the text to be selected (in this case, the g in great) • Drag the mouse pointer through the last character of the text to be selected (in this case, the s in seats)
Bolding Selected Text • With the text selected, click the Bold button on the Formatting toolbar. • Click inside the selected text to remove the selection (highlight)
Centering a Paragraph • Click somewhere in the paragraph to be centered (in this case, the last line of the announcement) • Click the Center button on the Formatting toolbar
Inserting Clip Art in a Word Document • To position the insertion point where you want the clip art to be located, press CTRL + HOME and then press the DOWN ARROW key three times • Click Insert on the menu bar • Point to Picture on the Insert menu • Click Clip Art on the Picture submenu
Inserting Clip Art in a Word Document • If the Search for text box contains text, drag through the text to select it • Type race car and then point to the Search button • Click the Go button
Inserting Clip Art in a Word Document • Type race car and then point to the Search button • Click the Go button • Click the image to be inserted in the document (in this case, the Formula One race car) • Click the Close button on the Clip Art task pane title bar
Centering a Paragraph Containing a Graphic • With the insertion point on the paragraph mark containing the clip art, click the Center button on the Formatting toolbar
Selecting a Graphic • Click anywhere in the graphic • If your screen does not display the Picture toolbar, click View on the menu bar, point to Toolbars, and then click Picture
Resizing a Graphic • With the graphic still selected, point to the upper-right corner sizing handle • Drag the sizing handle diagonally outward until the dotted selection rectangle is positioned approximately as shown in the figure
Resizing a Graphic • Release the mouse button. Press CTRL+HOME
Saving an Existing Document with the Same File Name • Click the Save button on the Standard toolbar
Printing a Document • Ready the printer according to the printer instructions • Click the Print button on the Standard toolbar • When the printer stops printing the document, retrieve the printout
Quitting Word • Position the mouse pointer on the Close button on the right side of the title bar • Click the Close button
Starting Word and Opening a Document • With your USB flash drive connected to one of the computer’s USB ports, click the Start button on the Windows taskbar, point to All Programs on the Start menu, point to Microsoft Office on the All Programs submenu, and then click Microsoft Office Word 2003 on the Microsoft Office submenu • Click Grand Prix Announcement in the Getting Started task pane
