OUTPUT DEVICE Used to get processed information from a computer (Ex. Monitor, printer)
COMPUTER An electronic device, regardless of its size, that processes large amounts of information quickly and accurately
INPUT The information entered into your computer for processing
PROCESSING Manipulating information within a computer system Your mouse may turn to an hourglass while the computer is processing.
OUTPUT The processed information put out by the computer
STORAGE Any physical device where information is kept (Ex. Floppy, hard drive, CD Rom)
HARDWARE The physical equipment of a computer
PERIPHERAL DEVICE Any hardware device connected to the computer in order to make it easier to use or to expand its capabilities (Ex. Printer, scanner, keyboard)
CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT / CPU The main component or brain of the computer; the chip that performs all the internal processing
SOFTWARE The set of instructions that tells the computer what to do Types: 1. System 2. Applications 3. Programming Language
SYSTEMS SOFTWARE Organizes the internal workings of a computer (Ex. Windows XP is an operating system)
APPLICATIONS SOFTWARE Programs that enable the computer to perform specific jobs such as word processing (ex. Microsoft Word is an Application)
PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE SOFTWARE Programs that allow the user to write applications software (ex. C++, HTML)
