    1. PDOs Social GIS Map As part of the MSE6 2005 SD plan for PDO, a Social Geographical Information System (GIS) was developed. The social GIS was completed by the geomatics services in coordination and support of the sustainable development and social performance sections. The GIS will enable project teams to gain an indication of the social features available in Oman and specifically the whole of PDOs concession area. Information obtained must be checked by the project team and community relation officers in the field. The system can be used to view relevant social features, including nearby communities, roads, hospitals, rest houses, ROP stations. In addition, the following layers can also be viewed and related to the social features: oil and gas fields, oil/gas/water pipelines, power lines, cluster boundaries, flares seismic and current camp locationsetc. Each community's characteristics such as the names of the village, Wilaya and region it is in, the total population, number of families, type of housing, availability of electricity and the nearest schools and hospitals can also be accessed through the system.
