Mecosta County Located in the west central part of the state, Mecosta County is home to many towns, such as Barryton, Canadian Lakes, Morley, Remus, and the largest of which is Big Rapids. Mecosta County offers the small town charm of Remus, but also the amenities of the larger cities in Big Rapids. According to the US Census Bureau, the population of Mecosta county in 2009 was 41,775, with a median household income of $37,888. Health Care There are various health care options for those living in Mecosta County, the largest of which is the Mecosta County Medical Center. This hospital is a seventy-four acute care facility located in Big Rapids. The Mecosta County Medical Center has the availability of a birthing center, cardiopulmonary services, critical care, and home health care services just to name a few. Mecosta County Medical Center was recently listed in the top ten percent in the nation for inpatient rehab facilities, and is listed as a Thompson Top 100 Hospital. Health Services, Primary Care • The Mecosta County Medical Center also has Primary Care services available to meet the needs of families in the surrounding areas. There are various other health care facilities located throughout Mecosta County, such as the Health Department, Senior Center, and Community Mental Health Agencies. There is also a free clinic called the Hope House that is located in Big Rapids.
Expansion of Health Facilities Mecosta Health Services, a subsidiary of Mecosta Medical Center, has just opened new offices in Canadian Lakes, Michigan. This facility also offers primary care services, including pediatric services for the surrounding families. Transportation • Transportation may be limited due to the rural aspect of this county, however they do offer a transportation system named “Dial-a-Ride” that is available for those in Mecosta County.
