What is film distribution? • Film distribution is a term used for the procedure of a film in order for it to be showcased to the audience. However, the procedure includes many factors before it can be presented in front of the targeted audience. • These factors are: • The playability – how it performs in the market • Suitable screen writers • Principal photography • Films marketability – how it is promoted to the targeted audience • A target audience • The question of will the film itself make any profit once released? • Competition with other films • A powerful cast (star power) will attract a larger audience
Film 4 distribution • In the year 2002, Film 4 came across an obstacle where they forced to cut costs, this lead to production decreasing. However, by the year 2008 – 2009, Film 4 managed to regain its title through award-winning titles that were low budgeted. • These film titles included: • Last king of Scotland • The Inbetweeners II • Bend it like Beckham • Tyrannosaur • Kill List • Dreams of a Life • The imposter
Slam dog millionaire • This movie was a great success and therefore earned many awards for it. These awards included: • nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 2009, • winning 8/10 (the most for any film of 2008) • including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. • 7 BAFTA Awards (including Best Film), • 5 Critics' Choice Awards, • 4 Golden Globes
Release • “In the first 3 days, a film’s release it can generate 30% or more of it’s entire box office.” • Therefore, the season most suited for my film : autumn/winter • This is due to the film must be released at a time where it is most appropriate for the storyline in order to attract the target audience.
