COVID-19: Bangladesh (1st Phase) Mobilizing all community radio stations for developing and broadcasting awareness building programs on COVID-19 To protect lives and livelihoods since March 1, 2020 to 31 May 2020.
Objectives of the broadcast programMarch 1, 2020 to 31 May 2020 Animate CSOs, Government, health service providers and communities for reinforcing collective action in pre and during COVID-19 Response for achieving keeping community people’s daily life normal and livelihood function & Mobilize further cooperation among government, CSOs, local market and communities’ response
COVID-19: Adaptation Phase| 1st June 2020 …. Enhance the capabilities of affected communities through an equity lens for adapting/coping/surviving with the new normal situation Focus on enhanced capabilities of Broadcasters and Stakeholders for exercising new normal and building resilience Accelerate of ICT applications for benefitting community people in all aspects of life Effective access to reliable information for countering infodemicand keeping lives & livelihood easy
Challenges & Way forward COVID-19: Disaster broadcasting Own resources & without emergency grant Cancellation of advertisement Cut down of grant-funded programs Stopped other income sources Increased the challenges significantly Some donor agencies are slowly observing with Bureaucratic Eye lens
Way forward Community Radio sector is calling on the Government to provide support for three target areas to Empower Societies during Disasters the remain viable and can play their critical role… • Government contribution to Community Radio COVID-19 Crisis Fund; • Strategic use of Community Radio for Government health & Information campaign • Need recognition from Government: Are community radio broadcasting an essential service, especially in times of crisis/disasters • Ensuring community radio can access to the Social Obligatory Fund (SOF) tapping 1% percent of mobile-phone operators’ income for connecting the unconnected rural people. Role of AIBD: Influence to the Government regarding three point.
