About PNS • Projects of National Significance (PNS) are short-term projects (one to five years) that address the most pressing issues affecting people with developmental disabilities and their families.
Projects of National Significance • 4 Data Collection Projects • 2 UCEDDs (MA, MN) • 17 Family Support 360 Centers • 7 FS360 - 2 UCEDDs (MS, VA) • 10 FS360 Military - 6 UCEDDs (FL, GU, MS, NC, TX, UT) • 12 Special Initiatives • 8 UCEDDs (CA, DE, HI, MI, NC, NM, UT, VT) • 21 Youth Information Centers • 8 UCEDDs (HI, MO, MS, MT, NC, NH, UT, VA)
Duration of Current Projects • Data Collection: 2007 – 2011 • Family Support 360: 2009 – 2014 • Family Support 360 for Military Families: 2008 – 2013; 2009 – 2014 • Family Support 360 Special Initiatives: 2009 - 2010 • Youth Information Centers: 2007 - 2010
Data Collection • Analysis of trends and innovations in Medicaid spending • Research on the nature of day and employment services for individuals with developmental disabilities • Examination and study of housing related activities • Support of the web-based Medicaid Reference Desk
Family Support 360 • Annually, each grant is to provide family support to families of individuals with developmental disabilities through a one-stop • A one-stop center serves as a centralized location to access a wide range of services
Family Support 360 for Military Families • Military families usually navigate two systems – civilian and military. • Each project will assist 20 families in year one, and 40 families each year in the second through fifth years.
Youth Information Centers • Serve youth (ages 13 – 17) and emerging leaders (ages 18 – 30) with developmental disabilities. • Provide information, training and experiences to assist them with transition, to become leaders and to serve as role models for other young people • Two national organizations, all others are locally based
Family Support Clearinghouse • The Family Support Center on Disabilities: Knowledge & Involvement Network was funded in 2008. • It offers a centralized resource to individuals with disabilities, their families and the public on the full range of options available to them. • http://www.familysupportclearinghouse.org
