  1. Nervous System http://lumbyisthebomb.blogspot.com/2008/10/introduction.html Nicole Hardesty Amber Glass Rachel Isbell Christian Perkins http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nervous_system_diagram.png

  2. Nervous System: • Main message system of the body • 2 main systems: • Central Nervous System(CNS) • Peripheral Nervous System(PNS) http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&biw=1280&bih=610&gbv=2&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=nervous+system+diagram&aq=0&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=nervous+system+&gs_rfai=

  3. Connection to Systems: • URINARY- When bladder is full, nerves tell bladder to release urine. • RESPRITORY-nervous system monitors and controls the amount of oxygen taken in by the respiratory system. • CARDIOVASCULAR-nerves send nervous impulses to tell the blood cells where to transport the oxygen in the blood

  4. Connection to Systems: • ENDOCRINE- Both systems maintain homeostasis, reproduction, and development • DIGESTIVE-interacts with the nervous system by providing building blocks for neurotransmitters • IMMUNE-interacts with the nervous system by reserving stress hormones that stop the protective effects of antibodies

  5. COD: • traumatic brain injury • Common way to die

  6. Brain: 2 parts: Forebrain-2 hemispheres called lobes: made of cerebruim Cerebellum-2 hemispheres called lobes http://brainworkshop.sourceforge.net/

  7. Brain Stem: • Connection from brain to spinal cord • Contains almost all cranial nerves http://www.becomehealthynow.com/article/bodynervousadvanced/812

  8. Eye: Retina-converts images into electrical impulses Orbit-bony socket that provides protection Sclera-white part of eye; tough outer coat of eye Cornea-main lens and does most focusing Iris-shallow chamber full of watery liquid; colored Pupil-black and center of iris Crystalline Lens-changes focusing power Choroid Plexus-small branch of blood vessels under retina Conjunctiva-flexible membrane; seals eyeball from outside http://www.newporteyecare.com/your_eyes.shtml

  9. Ear: • Interprets sound for brain • 3 parts: • 1-Outer: called the pinna and gathers sound • 2-Middle: transfers sound waves into vibrations • 3-Inner: contains the cochlea and turns vibrations into nerve impulses http://www.squidoo.com/otosclerosis

  10. Spinal Cord: Long & narrow structure made of nervous tissue Helps connect various organs to brain http://www.treatlowback.com/

  11. Nerves: Messengers of the body 4 types: 1-senses heat, cold, light, pain 2-sends message to muscles for quick reaction 3-translates messages to & from brain 4-translates into feelings http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nerve.nida.jpg

  12. Taste Buds: Interpret taste of food and drinks 4 main areas: 1-front: sweet & salty 2- far left: sour 3- far right: sour 4- far back: bitter http://library.thinkquest.org/3750/taste/taste.html

  13. Olfactory Cells: Tells difference between odors Located in nasal cavity http://diagramofthehumannose.blogspot.com/
