The Importance of Eco-Friendly Products As people all over the world become more aware about the importance of protecting the environment and using green products, the demand for them has become increasingly higher. Eco-friendly products, also known as green products, are products that don't harm the environment . Green products help conserve energy, minimizes carbon footprints or the emission of greenhouse gases and doesn't lead to a lot of toxicity and pollution.
Reusable Coffee Cup It's not much of a stretch to assume that most people frequent the local cafe. Either way, it's easy for people to fall into a pattern of ordering a coffee drink and throwing out the disposable cup. Let's face it, habits are hard to break. When we're presented with options that feel easy in the moment, it can certainly feel hard to make a change.
THE DISPOSABLE COFFEE CUP PROBLEM Since the invention of plastic and the introduction of supermarkets, we have become a disposable society. We find it very convenient, to use a product for a few minutes and then throw it away when we no longer need it. We believe, once that coffee cup or any kind of waste is out of our sight, it's not our problem anymore. Your cup along with the rest of the trash, is taken to a landfill. Or a second possible scenario - if you've decided to be "eco-friendly" and put your cup in a recycling bin, it's going to be taken to a recycling facility, sorted and then taken to a landfill once again, because most coffee cups can't be recycled. Reason? The plastic lining that makes them waterproof. The process of recycling (separating the plastic lining from the paper) is just too complicated.
Benefits of using a Reusable Mug Reduces waste, energy, transport and resources Less chance of spill or leakage Decorate – personalise your reusable mug Durable Cheaper in the long term (for individual and retailers as don’t need to produce disposable cup)
Promotion Just like smartphones, takeaway coffee seems to have taken over our lives. When you walk down any busy street or sit down in the library, half the people around you will be sipping caffeine from a cardboard cup. Our indulgence comes at a cost; just one takeaway drink per day creates over 10kg of waste each year. Our caffeine habit hurts the environment – but it doesn’t have to. Here are six reasons why you should give up disposable cups and invest in a reusable coffee cup instead.
1. It Reduces Waste • Protecting our environment is the main reason to quit disposable cups. • Consumers assume that cardboard cups are eco-friendly, but just 1 in 400 cups are actually recycled. • To make the cups waterproof, the cardboard is fused with a plastic lining, which can't be separated from the cardboard in a normal recycling plant. This makes them extremely difficult to recycle.
2. It Saves You Money Not only does using a reusable coffee cup save trees, it also saves you money. Major coffee chains offer a discount when you use your own cup. You’re also more likely just to fill it up at home and take it with you, saving you extra pennies.
3. It Keeps Your Coffee Warm Ever walked back to the library or the office on a cold day only to find that your coffee is lukewarm by the time you come to drink it? With a range of durable insulated cups on the market, this is a problem of the past.
4. Your Coffee Tastes Better Reusable cups eliminate the unwelcome taste of plastic in your morning cappuccino. Certain lids may also contain the harmful plastic BPA, whichhas the potential to contaminate your drink as well as your body if you frequently drink hot liquids through a plastic lid. Although there is conflicting evidence on the dangers of BPA, using a ceramic, BPA-free plastic or stainless steel cup avoids any possible health risk.
5. It's Stylish The disposable coffee cup might seem like the fashion accessory of the 21st century, but with so many well-designed reusable cups out there, you’re guaranteed to find one that fits with your Instagram aesthetic. Making an eco-friendly statement is a better look anyway.
