  4. 2. Father, Son, and Spirit (4-6) • Trinitarian Reference The most common pattern in the NT Epistles is to refer to God the Father with the word “God” and to refer to God the Son with the word “Lord”. • Gifts , Service, and Activities There are varieties of gifts (Verse 4) are, literally, charismata – gifts of grace. There are varieties of service (verse 5), or diakonia, refers to the way in which God-given abilities are to be used. To be a servant.

  5. 3. The Manifestation Of The Spirit (7-11) • All Christians Receive a Spiritual Gift Just as the Holy Spirit indwells every believer (Romans 8:9), so he will reveal himself to be present; and he will appear in a variety of ways. • The Common Good If we don’t look any farther than our own personal satisfaction then our gifts are completely wasted. We have to look past ourselves.

  6. 3. The Manifestation Of The Spirit (7-11) 1. The Utterance of Wisdom (verse 8) 1 Corinthians 1:23–24 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 2. The Utterance of Knowledge (verse 8) 1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 11:1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

  7. 3. The Manifestation Of The Spirit (7-11) 3. The Gift of Faith (verse 9) All believers have the gift of faith at conversion, but verse 9 seems to say that there is another gift of faith that would be needed in especially difficult circumstances. 4. Gifts of Healing (verse 9) We can see that Jesus, Paul and the rest of the early church lived in regular expectation that God would heal the people’s physical bodies.

  8. 3. The Manifestation Of The Spirit (7-11) 5. The Working of Miracles (verse 10) Probably the ability to work various kinds of miracles, including healing. 6. Prophesy (verse 10) Speech that reports something that God spontaneously brings to mind or reveals to the speaker.

  9. 3. The Manifestation Of The Spirit (7-11) 7. The Ability to Distinguish Between Spirits (verse 10) A special ability to distinguish between the influence of the Holy Spirit and the influence of demonic spirits. 8&9. Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues (verse 10) spirit-inspired utterance that is essentially unintelligible both to the speaker and the hearers.
