Issyk-Kul State University is the biggestand one of the oldest universities in Issyk-Kul region and Kyrgyzstan
History • In 1940 the Teacher`s Institute was opened in Karakol containing 150 students. It was fourth Higher Educational Institution in Kyrgyzstan (after medical, pedagogical and agricultural institutions). • In 1944, the name of G.Dimitrov was given to the institute. In 1953 there has been opened the Przhevalsk Pedagogical Institute on the base of that Teacher`s Institute. • In 1988, the Przhevalsk Pedagogical Institute has become the branch of Kyrgyz State University. • In 1992 the Karakol Branch of KSU becomes the separate University and was given the name of the first Kyrgyz linguist , the educator and Public figureKasymTynystanov. • It has been celebration of the 70-th anniversary of the IKSU on 2010.
University structure • 31 chairs ; • 8 centers: Law Information, tourism Information, Research and Development, Russian Language, Confucius , “Tolkun” cultural – aesthetic centre, Career and Employment,Kyrgyz Language, Bologna Implementation Centre; • 36 specialties (5 year study) and 19 BA directions • The total amount of students is more than 5500.
University has 7 educational buildings and a student`s hotel; • University has a training bases such as “Law information centre’ and “Tourist information center”, “Research and Development Center”, botanical garden for teachers and students to study and volunteer’s work ; • The scientific library is equipped with modern technologies, and gives an opportunity to work with electronic-library, electronic catalogues and contains the rich scientific literature.
International relations: • For the last 15 years the staff of the university has been taking an active part in international educational and grant programs financed by TEMPUS, Soros Kyrgyzstan, Global Environment Facility, SIDA, Peace Corps, IREX, ACCELS, USAID, UNDP, USA, French, Russian and German Embassies, Confucius Institutes, JICA, Eurasia Pacific Uninet, DAAD, Goethe Institute, ITEC and Erasmus Mundus programs etc. • The number of students and teachers who participated on mobility increasing year by year. During the last two years app.100 students and teachers have studied in different European and Asian countries. • University hosts foreign volunteers, professors and students from other countries. • University have more than 60 agreements and memorandums with different educational organizations on the world for cooperation and partnership
