  2. Example #1 The key on the map reads that two inches is equal 64 miles. If the distance between two cities on the map is 9.5 inches, how far is the driving distance between the two cities? The distance is 304 miles.

  3. Example #2: The model train set has a scale of 5 to 144. If the model’s caboose measures 6.75 inches. What is the length of the actual caboose in feet? The actual caboose is 16.2 feet.

  4. Example #3: The semi truck driver travels 65 miles per hour for 9 hours a day. If the distance between Boston, MA and Los Angeles, CA is 2,982 miles, how many days will it take the driver to drive across the country? It would take about 5 days.

  5. Example #4: Kenny drops two boxes of model car pieces. He is having a hard time sorting these out. He has two tires; one measures 1 ¼ inches and the other is 5/16 inches. If he is sure the bumper he just found is the smaller one and it measures 3 inches, what would expect the larger bumper to measure? The larger bumper would measure 12 inches.
