  3. Objective Students will understand rhyming words and many of them have similar suffixes and prefixes. Definition of Suffix: an affix that is added to the end of a word EX: Helpful, Freedom, Called Definition of Prefix: an affix that is added in front of the word EX: Television, Preplan, Unkind

  7. 10 mins Read the book: Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess 10 mins Discuss as a whole class about which words in the book rhyme. 15 mins Pull up a chart that shows prefixes and suffixes. Explain what prefixes and suffixes are. Also explain that most words that rhyme have the same prefixes and suffixes. 20 mins Split the class into two groups to play a game on identifying prefixes and suffixes on the smartboard. 25 mins When the game is over, ask them to go back to their seats and hand out the prefix and suffix worksheet.

  8. Group and Individual Group The group assignment is grouping words to the categories of whether it has a prefix or suffix. During this time students are able to help each other understand the meaning of prefix and suffix along with identifying which one is which. Individual When the group assignment is over, the students are able to return to their seats and do independent work and this can allow the teachers to know if they understood it or not. The worksheet will have the word and the student will need to be able to put the word in the correct box and identify prefixes and suffixes.

  11. Homework Students are asked to read a book and on a sheet of paper write down as many words as they can find in the book with prefixes and suffixes. Materials • A book at each student's reading level • A worksheet that has two columns (prefix and suffix) This worksheet is made by Joan Lee.
