Character Overviews By Marlena B.
Claudia You could say that Claudia was the main character of the book. Back in Greenfield (A suburb of New York City) Claudia feels that her life is boring. So, she decides to run away. She recruits her brother Jamie and together they run away to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There they discover a mystery around a sculpture, and at the end of the story Claudia is presented with a secret. This is the kind of excitement she was looking for.
Jamie Jamie is a very important character in the book. He earns money not only through his allowance, but through playing card games. At the museum they depend on his money to get food and things like that. Jamie is a very lively character and loves to argue with his sister. At the end of the book, the kids meet an old lady who has just as much spirit as Jamie, and the two become good friends.
Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler is a very interesting and important character. Although she comes in only at the end of the book, she is the one to tie up all the loose ends. She was the one who donated the sculpture to the museum, and share’s it’s secret with Jamie and Claudia. They also become friends in the process.
