Today's agenda • Warm up • Check/review homework • New notes • Classwork • Assign Homework • QUIZ TOMORROW!
Section 5.3 Theorems Involving Parallel Lines
Organize your notes!! • We have 4 theorems with pictures. Make 4 squares in your notebook to keep them organized (remember: this is optional) • Organizing your notes helps you to locate information when it come to practicing problems on your own.
Theorem 5-8 • If two lines are //, then all points on one line are equidistant from the other line.
Ex. m n A B If m//n then E C D AB=CD F &AE=CF
Theorem 5-9 • If three // lines cut off segments on one transversal, then they cut off segments on every transversal.
Ex. AX, BY & CZ are // A X If AB=BC B Y Then XY=YZ Z C
Theorem 5-10 • A line that contains the midpoint of one side of a triangle and is parallel to another side passes through the midpoint of the third side.
Ex. If B is the mdpt of AC then AB = BC Then AE = ED thus E is the mdpt of AD A B E C D And BE // CD
//Line Theorems • The segment that joins the midpoint of two sides of a triangle • Is // to the 3rd side • Is ½ as long as the 3rd side
Ex. Then 1. BE // CD 2. BE=½ CD If B & E are midpts of AC & AD A B E C D
Example: M, N & T are midpoints If XZ = 10, then MN = _____ If TN = 7, then XY = ______ If ZN = 8, then TM = ______ If XY = k, then TN = ______ Z N T X Y M
Example: DE = 12, FE = 10, DF = 8 • 2. P E D What kind of figure is DPQR? What is the perimeter of DRQR? Q R F
Practice Pg 180-181 #1-17 This will not be graded and just reviewed
