Heathfield Works! Especially young people young people • Is all about supporting vulnerable local young people into work, training or further education When young people get and keep a job: • They can move forward with their lives When young people have no prospect of a job: • Impacts on individuals, their families and whole communities
Help young people to help themselves • Why do we need a rural programme? • Success in Heathfield, now growing hubs in SE with expansion to Hailsham, and NE with expansion to Galasheils and Amble • 10 week voluntary programme, daily attendance • 1-1 approach • Personal action plan, tailored to individual need and circumstances • Family/carer involvement • Community buy-in, support and infrastructure • Confidence, motivation, aspiration and ‘work attitude’
We do it by… • Identifying work tasters, work experience, mentoring and training opportunities, in partnership with employers • Identifying local employment opportunities & ‘matching’ participant skills and interests with what employers need • Continuing after-care for participant and support for employer for 12 months post ‘graduation’ • Heathfield Hundred ‘awards’ recognise community and local business support • Graduation ceremony to recognise participant achievements
What Heathfield Works! has achieved • 80 Participants (aged 16 – 19) • 94% Completed programme • 81% Involved in work experience/voluntary work • 57% Into jobs • 41% Into further education
