Focus of the Learning Event • Adaptation to climate change and how to monitor adaptation in projects and programmes using the CEDRIG tool
Rationale for the Learning Event • Climate change is impacting development. Developing countries are vulnerable. • Impacts manifest themselves in sectors into which SDC invests • We need to tune our understanding towards: • The short term impacts of climate change on the risks of disaster • The long term impacts of climate change on sectors important for development: • Agriculture • Land • Water • Forest • Energy • Health
Objectives • To upgrade knowledge about the implementation and monitoring of climate change adaptation projects • To learn from and contribute to an exchange of experience on climate change adaptation in projects • To critically discuss opportunities and challenges in climate change adaptation based on practical examples • To facilitate networking and knowledge sharing
Approach • The event builds on previous courses, but is more focused on adaptation and on tools for planning and monitoring • Following a demand the contents moves more towards concrete examples of applying and monitoring adaptation in projects • The event offers focused and new information on the topic • The event addresses newcomers as well as staff who have already followed previous trainings (SDC and others). • A specific niche of the course is its short duration and its opportunity to network
Methods • (some) pre-reading of climate change basics, specifically on adaptation • Presentation inputs by external experts and SDC followed by discussion and exchange • Presentation of case studies, reflection and discussion • Practical exercise on CEDRIG • Facilitation of networking and knowledge sharing
Expected Results • Participants have a clear understanding of what is adaption in terms of specific adaptation projects and adaption as transversal approach • Participants are familiar in using CEDRIC and other tools in planning and monitoring adaption projects. • Participants are aware of the challenges and opportunities in monitoring adaption projects and programs
