  1. Researching PD has different purposes; to satisfy the funding body that something has happened to inform our knowledge creation to find out what has happened to find which ‘bits’ other processes have had a positive impact on It makes a big difference who funds research (can sometimes be subverted) (M Brown, V Brown. H Mendick G Griffiths & J Imrie) Contributions and Questions16th February

  2. How can we pull the research on learning, pedagogy, identity etc into PD? Is imposing systems / structures etc onto teachers as researchers counterproductive? What is lost? What counts as PD? ITT defined around change formal or informal PD

  3. What about those teachers who do not engage? Why is it? What would shift them to become engaged? I have noticed that my ideas about this group of teacher is mainly based on assumptions and stereotyping. I think I am now in a situation to find some of these teachers who would be willing to talk. But, what do I do about them? Is there any research about this group of teachers? (Els De Geest, University of Oxford)

  4. About researching other models of CPD – is there any model that works more on ‘solitary’ PD that has been / is being researched? (Els De Geest, University of Oxford) Knowledge of research required for PGCE student. Possible discussion as to how to extend and embed good practice of implementing new theories / practices into student’s placement schools & NQT posts. Good habits developed for rest of teaching career. Research will lead to increase in status of professional and available dialogue between teaching profession and government, much like BMA (Media) and government currently.

  5. Our group firmly believed in the carrot not the stick on encouraging research-led PD. Although, realising that ‘mandate’ is an efficient way to change what happens nationally. Can we offer CPD miles? We need to create a research mentor list to support teachers increating ‘research valid’ projects (using BSLRM) (Norma Honey NCETM)
