Rationale for2006‘A’ Level Curriculum • To better prepare our students for the knowledge age • To provide more options to cater to different interests and talents
Different Levels of Study Subjects are offered at three levels:
JC Curriculum • H1 H2 H3 Subjects • Compulsory H1 subjects: • General Paper • Project Work • Mother Tongue
Difference between H1 & H2 subjects • H1 and H2 subjects are equal in depth • H1 subjects are approximately half the breadth and scope of H2 subjects
H3 subjects can take the form of: • more in-depth study of the subject • a research paper • a university module
Subject Requirement - 2 criteria • NUMBER of subjects and LEVEL ie H1,H2,H3 Egnorm7 subjects: 4 H1,3H2, 0 H3 • IDENTITY of subject 1 contrasting subject and 3 compulsory [GP, MT, PW]
Combination of Subjects • Norm of 7 • Above norm Expanded Curriculum: take on an 8th subject [H1or H2]
Subject Combination looks like this… Norm: 7 subjects • 3 H2 subjects • 1 contrasting subject offered at least at H1 level • 3 compulsory H1 subjects [ GP, MT, PW]

Admission to JC • Based on GCE ‘O’ Level results. • Direct School Admission (DSA). Exercise conducted from May to July in Sec 4 / 5. Criteria dep on JC’s niche , usually talent in CCA, outstanding traits of leadership or service . DSA also to Polytechnics.

Admission to Polytechnic after GCE ‘O’ • To be eligible for consideration for admission to the various courses in the Polytechnic, applicants must obtain 26 points or better for the net ELR2B2 aggregate score (i.e. English Language, 2 relevant subjects and best 2 other subjects including CCA Bonus Points) and meet the minimum entry requirements of the respective courses in the Polytechnics. • CCA Bonus points are given to students in the computation of their net aggregates. They are not taken into consideration in determining whether applicants are eligible for specific courses. • There is also Direct Admission to Polytechnics. Exercise will be conducted from May to July.

Admission after GCE N for Normal Academic students New Route 1POLYTECHNIC FOUNDATION PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS in Normal Academic stream Eligibility Criteria Starting from the Sec 4N(A) cohort taking the 2012 GCE ‘N’-Level examinations, N(A) students who obtained an ELMAB3 (English, Math, Best 3 Subjects) raw aggregate score of 11 points or better (excluding CCA bonus points) at the GCE ‘N’-Level examination will be eligible to apply to the PFP, provided that they have also obtained the following:
