General principles • Metadata Application Profile (MAP) identifies mandatory data elements • Additional data elements may be added • Specialized resources = specialized treatment • Existing copy not changed unless incorrect or information outdated • New records maintained to new standard • Records may contain a mix of old and new practices (as always)
If in doubt … • Follow the general principles • Do what makes the most sense • Do what you’ve always done (unless guidelines instruct otherwise) • Exercise your cataloger’s judgment!
