Benefits to Coalition building • Interaction planning and exercises with professionals that you will work with in a mass fatality situation. • Understanding trends and current updates to state and national information. • Know capabilities of other agencies involved. • Assist where your strengths are and identify weaknesses • Implement initiatives to correct weaknesses. • Be prepared to act or assist if needed.

What we know • Terrorist acts, natural disaster, and disastrous incidents are going to happen where loss of life and injury are inevitable! • By virtue of the state constitution, agency directives and your obligation, you will have to act in some capacity. • If federal assistance is enacted, the response is sometimes days after the incident .

Equipment and human resources • Invaluable when they are prepared. • I have read lots of info regarding the proximity of the resources needed in Boston and the professionalism shown by responders and private citizens to the needs of the wounded and deceased. • Training is always paramount in these situations as well.

  9. Alabama • A request was placed to our Association in their time of need and we prepared to help with needed equipment. • The later called back and had obtained needed equipment from a closer agency.

What Coalition building has taught my agency • We will act as a team with other agencies • We will need each other to perform the services needed to the public. • Different perspectives during discussion, planning and training bring us closer to a real life situation. • Sharing various levels of training and experience in different areas has enlightened us all. • The willingness of Hospitals, E.M.S., Mental Health agencies, D.H.E.C. and other groups has been phenomenal • You will work like you train!

  15. What can it do for you? • You will get as much as you give! • The limits depend on the membership and their cooperation. • Your attitude and willingness will shape what others do around you!
