The Shack • Being emotional with God (e.g. angry) • We spew all kinds of hurts when we are "just fine" (Psalm 140:1-3) • Our life experiences that influence our view/relationship of/with God? • Our relationships are intertwined: God, spouse, children, friends, etc. • Sometimes it's possible to know in your head, but not your heart • Words matter, and sarcasm wasn't in God's plan (Ephesians 4:29-32) • Cloistered spirituality isn't effective • It’s FICTION, not a theological treatise!

  5. What Is a Relationship? • Knowing their name? • What do you call God? When you praise? When you are angry? When you are hurt? • Knowing how they look, sound, act, etc.? • How do you envision God? His temperament? His reactions? • Sharing our emotions? • Anger. Fear. Love. Adoration. Our Relationship With God • Knowing about Him, or knowing Him? • What impedes us? • Focus on rules vs. relationship? • Being overly focused on performance and emotions? • A perception he isn't being just? (Romans 12:17-21) • Shock and grief over events? (Psalm 88:11-12,18) • Hurt? (Psalm 42:9-10) • Why should we work so hard at knowing Him?

  7. Mack’s Dilemma • Have you ever wondered what the real prize of eternal life is? • John 17:3  "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
