Award Recognition for Great Success of the Florida Motorcycle Safety Coalition • To recognize the great success and effort to reduce motorcycle fatalities, injuries and crashes, the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) awarded the Florida Motorcycle Safety Coalition with the prestigious 2009 GHSA Peter O’Rourke Special Achievement Award. • Ms. Marianne Trussell received the award at the 2010 GHSA Annul Meeting in behalf of the Coalition

Award Recognition for Great Success of the Florida Motorcycle Safety Coalition • The Florida Motorcycle Safety Coalition also received the 2010 National Transportation Public Affairs Workshop (NTPAW) Skills Award for Best Public Awareness Event - Ride Straight State to State event. • Motorcyclists from Florida, Georgia and Alabama carried their “None for the Road” message from Campbellton to the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally.

Accomplishments on Administrative and Technical Support • Produced last coalition meeting report • Updated the MSSP Business Plan • Partnered with USF, UF, FIU and University of Miami on motorcycle endorsement (3-level approach) and safety education • Completed the “None for the Road” paid media campaign in high priority counties with 19,555 spots aired • Distributed motorcycle safety promotion items, and obtained motorcyclist surveys during the Biketoberfest 2010 in Daytona Beach

Accomplishments on Administrative and Technical Support (Continued) • Visited hot spot locations in Miami-Dade County • Analysis of contributing factors of motorcycle crashes at hot spot locations in Miami-Dade County is underway • Analyzed motorcycle crash data (2004 – 2008) • Found the numbers of DUI related motorcycle crasheswere very high in Volusia County in Week 10 and Week 42 which corresponds to the Bike Week, and at Daytona Beach • Biketoberfest

Accomplishments on Administrative and Technical Support (Continued) • Obtained needs and approaches for helmet research via working with Dr Gillian Hotz • Studied available data sources for data linkage and analysis to develop a severity scale for helmet-related injuries • Crash reports • National Trauma Database • National Spinal Cord Injury Database • Hospital Discharge Data • Death Certificates • Driver Records • VIN Numbers Database • Arranged and assisted in pre-coalition teleconference

Major Tasks for this Grant Cycles • Provide administrative and technical supports to the Coalition and assist the Coalition to implement MSSP business plan • Work closely with major universities on motorcycle endorsement and motorcycle safety education • Analyze and identify motorcycle crash contributing factors at hot spot locations for top ten high priority counties in Florida • Conduct a "Store-N-Go" pilot study • Perform data linkage and develop safety impact card with or without wearing helmet • Work with a video production company to produce a motorcycle PSA video for Florida • Assist bike events and distribute motorcycle safety promotion items • Conduct “None for the Road” and “Share the Road” paid media campaigns
