What’s coming… • No integrated mathematics curriculum – we will remain with the traditional approach • No changes in math textbooks for 2014-2015 • Curriculum will be supplemented and supported to meet any changes in standards • Currently encouraging teachers to reflect upon their practices and incorporate the 8 Standards of Mathematical Practice

Testing 2013-2014 • At PVPHS preliminary SBAC testing will happen in April – scores will not be reported – all 9th graders will participate in only ELA this year • 10th Graders will still take the CAHSEE – current pass rate for 1st time is 98-99% • 11th Graders in Algebra 2 or above will still take the CST test for mathematics, they will also take the EAP portion of the test http://www.csusuccess.org/eap

  6. Future Testing…. • Testing at the high school level with be done through SBAC and will be 11th grade only starting in 2014-2015 • CAHSEE next year – possibly still administered to 10th grade students • EAP for 11th graders may still be in place next year but will eventually be replaced with SBAC Testing • Middle schools will test students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades through SBAC starting next year

What else is happening? • Increased dialogue with teachers from elementary through high school mathematics • Algebra 1 will no longer be considered an 8th grade level class by Common Core pacing – a large percentage of our students will still take Algebra 1 in 8th grade • Focus on applications, cooperative work, more statistics, and a deeper understanding of material • To do this we still need to concentrate on a comprehensive understanding of the basics • Changes to future pathways will still offer multiple pathways and areas for advancement
