Two day training course • Facilitated the training 5 times • Gave one training with the University of Amsterdam • Had two in company trainings • Total 90 participants • Five apprentices • Participants from all over the Netherlands • All had experience with working with people with dementia • About 75% had experience with leading groups • About 70% were familiar with using reminiscence • At six different places at the Netherlands, RYCT groups are running
Outline • First day On the first day we focus on how to improve the contact with a person with dementia and the use of reminiscence techniques for retrieving positive memories. Through various experiential exercises, the participants will learn to use different methods of creative reminiscence. • Second day The second day we focus on how to support and advise the carers by using experiential exercises. These experiential exercises increase the understanding of the carer about dementia. The aim is to improve the contact between the carer and the person with dementia and thus relieve the care.

Second Day Planning a session and around key themes
Family carers meeting • In 4’s, participants are writing down the pitfalls of running family carers meetings. • Powerpoint about the outline and the do’s and dont's of the family carers meeting. • Doing exercises; • Listening/not listening • Waiting 10 seconds • Taking responsibilty for another’s story • Verbal and non-verbal communication • Hope and fears and closure
