iLearn – Context and Rationale • Personal Development Planning: From PAR to Embedded PDP • University-Wide Initiative • Timetable: • Pilots (2007-08) • Roll-Out to Other Schools (April-Sept 2008) • U/G Year 1 (2008-09) • Other Years and P/Gs?? • REP = 330 UG & 110 f/t PG Students
What is iLearn? - • Blackboard-based ‘course’ • The ‘Hub’ in PDP Network • A Repository of Info and Links • A Student-Centred PDP Tool
Use and Utlility • 96% of BSc RE 1 Students have ‘used’ iLearn • Average of 15 hits per student • Most use is limited to RE Study Skills module assessment (CV prep and upload) • Some (circa 30%) have used it more extensively for undertaking Individual Learner Profiles; sharing CV/ILP with tutors; info on learning resources
iLearn – The (Potential) Benefits • Ongoing PDP (From Induction Through Whole Prog) • CV Construction and Self-Reflection • Embedded PDP (Modules / Personal Tutorials) • One-Stop Shop (Info Hub) • Single Communication Portal (Email / Sharing / Discussion?) • Low Maintenance (Base Info / Templates / On-Line Learning Exercises)
iLearn – The Issues (So Far) • Student Engagement – Beyond CV Exercise? • Staff Awareness / Engagement? • Technical Issues: Confusion Over Uploading Portfolio Material • Not Really Embedded in Programme?
iLearn – The Future • More Embedding: • Prog Review (New Skills-Orientated Project Modules in Yrs 1 & 2) • RREF Mentoring Scheme in Yr 2 • Personal Tutorial Monitoring / Recording • Roll-Out to Other REP Cohorts - All UG Yrs (and PG RE and Planning?) • More Interactive Learning – Exercises; Tests; Quizes; etc.
