Cherry Willingham Community School Year 9 projects 2012 Project 4 Compilation of Village Heritage/History 9.05–9.30: Introduction to the project and the outside visit 9.30-11: Walk around the village to learn about the various older buildings/sites and their history. 11-11.30: Break 11.30-12: Full year briefing on all four projects 12-1.30: In small groups meet residents who have lived in the village for a long time to learn how it has developed over the last 50/60 years and to record their experiences either in writing or digitally. Introduction to a time-line from Iron Age through Roman, Anglo- Saxon, mediaeval to the present day including relationship to Lincoln and River Witham 1.30-2.15: Lunch 2.15-3.15: Review and record first day activities and think about the next steps for day 2

Cherry Willingham Community School Year 9 projects 2012 Project 4 Compilation of Village Heritage/History Project Aim: To research the history and heritage of the village and devise means of recording the results for later presentation • Understand what is currently known about the history of Cherry Willingham and its context in the surrounding area against a time-line. • Undertake further research via the internet and by contact with e.g. the County Archives, Heritage Lincolnshire, the Society for Lincolnshire History & Archaeology and the Collection. • Carry out interviews with older residents of the village to record their recollection of more recent history. • Collate all this information and record it, with its sources, in a form that can be indexed and accessed electronically.

Cherry Willingham Community School Year 9 projects 2012 Project 4 Compilation of Village Heritage/History Outside visit:Walk around the village to look for older sites and houses and to record them on a map • You will be divided into several smaller groups each to be accompanied by an adult • You will be going on a walk around parts of Cherry Willingham armed with some photos and a map

Old House Building Artefacts • The photos are largely of buildings/sites that are part of the village’s older history prior to World War 2 • You may also take your own photos of them and note any questions you may have for later research • At all times you must stay in your groups and with your adult – do not wander off on your own

Cherry Willingham Community School Year 9 projects 2012 Project 4 Compilation of Village Heritage/History Meeting residents:To hear and record their stories of the changing face of the village in the last 50/60 years • You will be divided into smaller groups to listen to one of our visiting residents as they tell their story • Listen to them and either write down some notes of what they say or record them electronically if available • Feel free to ask them questions to clarify what they have told you • Depending on time, you may move on to another resident and repeat the process with them • Remember the aim is to capture their stories so that you can compile them into a record later • Share some important things you have learned and ask any further questions before we thank our visitors
