Start of the DAISY project • May 2008, cooperation with DZB • aim: to offer DAISY for purchase, the same offer for all listeners • Argon audiobooks are „DAISYfied“ • 100 titles in 2008 • continuation of the project in 2009
The spectrum of titles • literature • comedy • historical novel • crime • romantic fantasy • non-fiction audiobooks • books for children and adolescents
The structure of DAISY books • audio content + text = DAISY type two • the content’s arrangement depends on the printed version • the printed booklet is recorded • fixed structure for added information
The production of DAISY titles • first production cycle: 6–8 weeks • additional editions can be supplied faster • packaging has to be different • 50–100 ex. per edition: aprox. same amount as when produced on demand • a DAISY-title is published 1–2 months after the same title on audio CD
Distribution • barrier-free and graphical website • bookshop for blind: „MetaGIS“ • overnight order possible in bookshops • acoustic catalogue and a printed version • special activities and fair for additives
Conclusion after one year • 10.000 titles sold • registered clients: book wholesalers and major bookshops • buying patterns become clear • direct contact mainly to blind clients • degree of popularity increases but has still to be worked upon
Outlook • the consumers’ number will grow (1.1.2010) • the offer has to grow constantly to get “audiobooks for blind” out of its niche • MP3 + surplus value • downloads • new listening device is desirable • DAISY will be established!
