  2. Every Child Matters = Key Policy amongst many requiring the development of multi agency teams

Complex Challenges for: • Education, health, social care and voluntary sectors • Its here already- integrated services – lessons to be learnt • Wider understanding required by public sector leaders of integrated services • What is the impact of integrated children’s Services – evidence or anecdotal? • Multi agency working covering all public sector services which in turn affects all Schools within UoW • Leadership • Effective collaboration and partnership will be paramount to success • Data management key factor to successful integration • Extended day – working with wider services across the community • Workforce development • Working with wider Children’s Services (Integrated Qualifications Framework Jan 2008) • Working across education sector ( FE, work based learning, HE) • Data management – common assessment framework • Personalisation/blended learning • ‘modernisation’ – QCA and framework for development

University ECM: Strengths • Largest provider of health, education and social work/social care training in the region • Expertise and commitment of staff to support cross school ECM developments • Strong partnerships across the sectors • Established reputation for providing professional awards and management and leadership awards • ECM cluster group well established • Good models already established for delivering inter-professional modules/awards • Strong links with the Children’s Workforce Network supporting the development of the IQF for the Children’s Workforce Strategy

University ECM: Key challenges • School based target setting • School based quality assurance model • Lack of corporate identity for ECM • Infrastructure issues e.g. rooms, timetables and academic workload allocation • No overall staff development program for ECM within University • Coordinating a “one stop approach” to ECM services across the institution

  6. How Has UoW responded so far? • 2006/7 • Integrated Services ECM Policy and Operational Groups established – June 2006 • Independent audit report commissioned from External Consultant to support our strategic direction • ECM curriculum and placement audit completed for University • Schools across University allocated development funds to support ECM cross school developments • Regional stakeholder event July 2007 • Staff development event July 2007

How Has UoW responded so far? • 2007 • ECM business plan developed – buy in at Executive level – 12 key projects across the University • Curriculum Development/CPD • Foundation degree in Integrated Services • Postgraduate modules to support Integrated Services • Inter-professional work-based learning (placement group) established across the University • ECM Research Groupestablished • ICT Group established –e-portfolio, pebble pad and on line conferencing

  11. Has this been easy????? • NO – but well worth while • Leadership and ‘buy in’ to change management paramount at all levels
