  2. Expectations • Crowded waiting rooms and hallways • General confusion / stressful environment • Large space to support ER’s capabilities

  3. Impressions • Most were pretty positive • Skewed by the expectation of the worst • Focused on: • General use of space • Noise level • Overall environment

  4. Pros: Not crowded

  5. Overall ER • Did not span a large area of the hospital • Compared to the pathology labs in Grady • Pro: efficient use of space

  6. Overall Environment • Like an airport terminal

  7. Reflection • Environment reflects the idea that people are doing their work quickly enough • Ex: CULC building

  8. Check-in / Registration • Like a bank teller • Feels very efficient

  9. Security • Came in the front door of the hospital and didn’t have to go through the metal detector • Purpose?

  10. Cluttered and Cramped

  11. Comfort

  12. Size of rooms

  13. Trauma Bay : compared with OR

  14. Dirty rooms • Expected to see rapid turn-over time

  15. Noise Level

  16. Identified Problem • No electronic transfer of medical records from EMT to triage • [Communication]

  17. Preliminary Problems • Clutter in the patient observation and triage rooms • Can create additional stress on patients and family members

  18. Conclusion • Seems to be a pretty efficient system • Would need to see more ERs for comparison
