Vision Statement "Located in the heart of the city, West Bloomington will be characterized by its high quality-of-life, empowered residents and deep sense of pride. Through partnerships and strong associations, and building on the neighborhood's history and diversity, West Bloomington will be home to new jobs, homes and vibrant public gathering spaces in a safe and welcoming community."
Greening Established 3 community gardens West Bloomington Garden has a storage shed donated by Habitat for Humanity Hosted Saturdays in the Park (plant exchange), Family Fun Fall Festival, Children’s Events and others Coordinated Learn & Lead program Planted 8 corners along Market St.
Youth • 100 Club • YMCA swim lessons partnership • Summer Mural Project • Ambassadors Program
Education • Launched Book Bike • Established digital labs via Blank Canvas • Provided “community classroom” for intern • Engaged in Strickland committee • Financial Literacy- using LINK at the Farmer’s market
Book Bike • Adapted from Book bike project in Chicago • Mission: put books into the hands of Westside residents and promote WBRP through presence at community events • Has appeared at Halloween and Thanksgiving Farmer’s Markets and in the Once Upon a Holiday window vignette
Economic Development • Promote HCC business programs • Feature local businesses in WestWord • Partner with churches and various organizations to support workforce development programs
Housing • Facilitated first McLean County Housing Summit • Block-by-Block revitalization of 600 W Mulberry • Created renter’s rights information board
Safety & Wellness • Conducted Westside study on safety and crime • Inventory lighting completed • New series of walks with neighbors and BPD to reach concern areas
