Joints In The Shoulder • The acromioclavicular joint, or AC joint, is a joint at the top of the shoulder. It is the junction between the acromion (part of the scapula that forms the highest point of the shoulder) and the clavicle. • Glenohumeral Joint – Is the main joint of the shoulder. It is a ball socket joint that allows the arm to rotate in a circular fashion. Allows the arm to have tremendous mobility, which means this joint is a lot more likely to dislocate than any others. • Sternoclavicular Joint – The Sternoclavicular occurs at the medial end of the clavicle

Common Injuries In 2006, approximately 7.5 million people went to the doctor because of shoulder and upper arm sprains and strains. More than 4.1 million of these visits were for rotator cuff problems. Shoulder injuries are frequently caused by athletic activities that involve excessive, repetitive, overhead motion, such as swimming, tennis, pitching, and weightlifting. Impingement Impingement is caused by excessive rubbing of the shoulder muscles against the top part of the shoulder blade, called the acromion. Instability Sometimes, one of the shoulder joints moves or is forced out of its normal position. This condition is called instability, and can result in a dislocation of one of the joints in the shoulder.
