1. Subject – verb agreement is separated by prepositional phrase Example; 1. Thestudy of languages is very interesting 2. Severaltheories on this subject have been debated 3. The fear of rape and robbery hascaused many people to flee the cities fie_itan
2. Subject with compound subject has the verb in pluralwhile if it is thought together as one person, one thing so the compound subject will be singular. Example: 1. Tigor and his brother are students 2. Room and board is $30,- per month (when you think them as one) fie_itan
3. When a singular and plural subject are connected byeither/or, neither/nor put the verb of the sentence in accordance with the subject near it. Example: 1. neither jenny or the othersare available 2. the boy or the girlis waiting for me 3. neither the managers nor the secretarywants to leave. fie_itan
4. The indefinite pronouns such as: each, every, either, neither, one, every one, anyone, someone, anybody, everybody, somebody are singular and required singular verb. Example: • every one of these apples is wormy • each of the girls sings well. fie_itan
5. Several indefinite pronouns are with verb plural:* several, some, a few, all, most, one-third, if you think is plural subject so the verb in the sentence become plural verb, and on the contrary. Example: • 1. Some of the students are in the yard • 2. Some of the student is in the yard • 3. All of the pie is gone. • 4. All of the pies are gone. • 5. One-third of the people are unemployed. • 6. One-third of the city is unemployed. fie_itan
* None also can take either a singular or plural verb, depending on the noun which follows it. Example: • 1. None of the counterfeit money has been found • 2. None of the students have finished the exam yet fie_itan
6. Collective noun as subject:* indicating a number of people or animals are singular. In some cases they are plural if the sentence indicates that individual members are acting separately.Example: army, group, class, family, organization, team, government, union, jury, flock, herd, etc. Example: • the organizationhas lost many members this year. • our teamis going to win the game • the majoritybelieves that we are in no danger • the majority of the studentsbelieve him to be innocent. • the flock of birdsis circling overhead fie_itan

7. The expression the number is followed by “singular verb” while a number is followed by “plural verb”. Example: • 1. a number of dresseswear at the party • 2. the number of dresseswears at the party fie_itan
8. Sentences beginning with the existential ‘there’, the subjects are actually after the verb. Example: • there is ice- cream in the glass • there was a student in the room last night • there are many oranges on the table fie_itan
