On your paper, write down the four things you should do if you want to succeed this year. We went over this yesterday. Get out your homework so we can review it. Welcome to Science 8/31
1. Come to school 2. Give your best effort 3. Follow the rules and procedures 4. Ask questions How will you succeed?
1. Group Scientific Method Activity 2. Observation Vs. Inference 3. Observation & Inference Activity 4. What is bias? Today's Schedule
Observation- is an activity of humans, consisting of receiving knowledge of the outside world through the senses, or the recording of data using scientific instruments. Inference- draws a conclusion or offers an explanation based on observations I. Observation vs. Inference
II. Observation vs. Inference 1. Write down 15 observations about this classroom. *Remember an observation can be seen, heard, felt, recorded, or smelled* 2. For each observation write down an inference. *Remember an inference is a conclusion based on observations*
III. What is bias? Bias is a state of mind when you have already decided on the issue without even knowing the full facts. You may call it prejudice or being partial. Example: I think the Cleveland Indians are the best team in Major League Baseball. They will win the World Series this year.
1. Tonight when you go home make 5 observations about your house, family, yard, or your neighbors. 2. After you have made your 5 observations, use those observations to make 5 inferences. 3. Use the same paper that you took notes on today. Homework
