  1. Basic Service Keys Service Keys – are special keys such as the space bar, tab key, caps lock key, control key, shift key, delete key, enter/return key, and arrow keys, that allow you to use the computer to perform specific functions.

  2. Space Bar • The Space bar inserts space between words and sentences. Strike the space bar with the right thumb with a quick down and in motion (toward the palm). Avoid pauses before and after spacing.

  3. Arrow Keys • Move the insertion point left, right, up, or down. Also referred to as the Cursor Keys.

  4. Shift Keys • Make capital letters and certain symbols when used with other keys. Left Shift makes capital letters & symbols for keys on the right side of the keyboard and the right shift makes capital letters & symbols for keys on the left side of the keyboard.

  5. Enter (Return) Key • Moves the cursor to the left margin and down to the next line.

  6. BACKSPACE DELETE The Delete key deletes characters to the right of the insertion point. • The Backspace key deletes characters to the left of the insertion point.

  7. Tab Caps Lock The Caps Lock key is used to make all capital letters. • The Tab key moves the insertion point to a preset position.

  8. CTRL (Control) Key NUM Lock Key Activates/deactivates the numeric keypad. (When the green light is lit, the Numeric Keypad can be used like a calculator). • When used with other key(s), the CTRL key executes commands. The commands may vary with different software packages.
