  2. Advertising • How much do you think advertisements affect your spending behavior? • Where do you see advertisements? • How believable are product advertisements? • Ad 1 • Ad 2 • Ad 3

  3. Power of Advertising • Ads are everywhere • Ads focus on creating emotions that make us want to buy the product. • Businesses come up w/creative slogans to get us to buy the product.

  4. Are you aware? • Are you aware of how much influence advertising has on your buying decisions? • Slogans are often unconsciously ingrained in our minds. • They make us want to buy an item

  5. Deception • Are the messages in ads realistic? • Advertisements frequently make a product or offer seem more attractive that it actually is. • Avoid being deceived by ads by getting the true facts about a product before buying it. • Not ALL advertising is TRUE.

  6. Steps to avoid being deceived • Read the fine print. • Ask questions about what is included for the purchase price. • Talk to friends or family members who have a similar item or read user reviews • Have realistic expectations about what a product can do & what it should cost. • Don’t get caught up in the hype & remember to ask yourself whether this is a need or a want.
