ANGEL Course Management System Andrea Chappell Friday a.m. seminar5 March 2004
Back up a bit: UWone Update • UWone “production” system in place F2003 • Result: UWone “production” system not capable of supporting campus • New strategy discussions begin in F2003
New Strategy • Provide the basic online course features to the broader campus • IST support to administer, provide training • Off the shelf product - ANGEL from CLL • “UW CMS/ANGEL Project” • Continue to build on the basic system for extended features, like those of UWone • LT3 • Build in a supportable environment - ANGEL
UW CMS/ANGEL project • Sponsored by Alan George, Tom Carey, UCIST • Group to look at the support model to make ANGEL available to all of campus • Faculty computing offices, IST (me, Lorne, Jan), LT3 Liaison, DE, Library • Pilot ANGEL in S2004 • Campus offering in F2004
ANGEL Project Questions • What role do the Faculty computing offices play? • How much support can we/should we offer? • How do we structure support HelpDesk and email? • Communication strategies for informing of outages (intentional, otherwise)?
Other Activities • IST support model (who, what) • Process for “registering” courses in ANGEL, class lists and add/drop, gradebook final marks upload, etc. • For next step: Integrating new features (tested and true) in the campus system • Working with CyberLearning Labs (ANGEL vendor) for feature extensions in UWone • Working on process
A Look at ANGEL • “Test” system V6.0
