A Three-Year AQIP / CAP Project2010-13 The major goals of the project: To develop consistent yet discipline-appropriate, effective, and efficient ways to recruit, hire, and orient new adjunct faculty. To improve the support (teaching and learning infrastructure) for adjunct faculty. To improve the evaluation process for adjunct faculty.
Accomplishments of Year One 2010-11 • Recruiting • Established semi-annual Adjunct Recruitment Fairs (“So You Want to Be an Adjunct?”) • Hiring • AD’s of Faculty Evaluation and Hiring – worked with DH’s/PD’s to screen and interview candidates • AD’s – made recommendations to HR/IT for improvements to our online adjunct application system • Each School now maintains a systematic record of all new hires to track trends and ensure appropriate credentialing
Year One Accomplishments cont’d. • Supporting • First Adjunct Excellence in Teaching Award • AD’s of Operations undertook an analysis of adjunct office and computer needs • College distributed a survey to all adjunct faculty on how well it supports their teaching and learning • AD’s of Operations led the development of a standard electronic Adjunct Availability Form
Year One Accomplishments cont’d. • Evaluating • AD’s for Faculty Evaluation and Hiring worked diligently to evaluate all new adjuncts in their Schools. Nearly all of the over 150 new adjuncts college-wide were observed and given feedback. • AD’s created and used a standard tool for observation and feedback.

Plans for Year Two2011-12 • Establish a steering committee: Paula Sullivan, Bill Faber, Mike Vargo, Ann Alexander, Diane Sparks, Ray Hinkle, and Melanie Forbes • Goals for Hiring: • Create an adjunct faculty hiring guide for DH’s/PD’s – Paula Sullivan • Hold trainings with DH’s/PD’s on adjunct hiring – AD’s of Schools
Plans for Year Twocont’d. • Document adjunct hiring standards in the Schools and establish and document parameters when exceptions can be made – Laurie Chesley and Amy Koning • Implement the recommendations for improving the online adjunct application system – HR/IT • Goals for Orienting: • Share and promote departmental best practices in orienting new adjunct faculty – Bill Faber

Plans for Year Twocont’d. • Goals for Evaluating: • Include in the evaluation of new adjuncts and full-time faculty a review of their use of Blackboard – Bill Faber and Paula Sullivan • Expand the adjunct evaluation process to include experienced adjunct faculty and build capacity for this expansion to occur – Bill Faber and Paula Sullivan
