  2. The FDIC • The FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) was created by congress • It started after the Great Depression to make sure that the peoples money would be safe if the banks failed again. • It was started after the Glass-Steagall Act in 1933 • Formed June 16, 1933

  3. 6 Values of the FDIC • Integrity • Competence • Teamwork • Effectiveness • Accountability • Fairness

The FDIC • This allows people to be able to put no more than 250,000 in the bank and it will be secure if the banks were to fail again. • If you put more than 250,000 and the banks fail you may not get it back. • This is still around today. • This independent agency prohibited banks from paying interest on checking accounts.

SEC • The SEC • Regulates buying and selling. • Sustain a growing economy that produces jobs, improves living standards. • (strives) protect investors, maintain fair orderly and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation. • SEC has the power to license and regulate stock exchanges. • SEC was to regulate the stock market and prevent in proper gain of benefit (corporate abuse). • Insider trading (apple)
