  3. Censusof Marine Life Expectations & Deliverables for 2010 • Actively participate in the 2010 Synthesis • Design regional communication strategies • Define strategies for long-term support

  4. Censusof Marine Life 2010 Synthesis Participation • Due to the global nature of CoML, there is a need of an active regional participation • Produce a coherent and global synthesis within and across projects, but adding regional components or suggesting potential applications

  5. Censusof Marine Life 2010 Synthesis Participation • Comparison of different regions with respect to state of knowledge, level of human impact and ecosystems/species under threat • KUU regional update with a global comparison

  6. Censusof Marine Life Regional Communication Strategies • Identify potential regional receptors of Synthesis products, to cover the demands of managers, policy makers, industry, educators and scientific community

  7. Censusof Marine Life Regional Communication Strategies • Address educational agendas considering the different socioeconomic environments and needs • Design E&O products according to regional needs and development

  8. Censusof Marine Life Long Term Support Strategies • Address national/regional marine biodiversity strategies • Actively interact with decision makers • Identify potential donors and their requirements/expectations

  9. Censusof Marine Life Long Term Support Strategies • Focus on social benefits in the post-2010 era • Integrate the CoML experience as the marine component of national/regional biodiversity initiatives

  10. Censusof Marine Life Post 2010 Legacies • Level of involvement and legacies will depend of history and capacity of each NRIC • Capacity building (e.g. taxonomy, tech ) • Build an active network of people (researchers, managers, educators, government, etc.)

  11. Censusof Marine Life Post 2010 Legacies • Maintain OBIS and develop it as a management tool • Build up awareness of benefits in understanding and preserving marine biodiversity
