Regional Collaboration in Public Safety Training • A shift from “Silo” mindsets to more cooperative approaches to planning and responses to public safety emergencies • Especially valuable in Charlottesville area • Sharing of costly equipment & training costs • Supports cooperative task forces for cross-jurisdictional crimes • Supports better response for Active Shooter incidents

Background • Joint Facility Needed to Meet Minimum Qualification Requirements and enhanced training needs • Current arrangement with Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club (RRPC) started as a temporary accommodation in mid-1990’s and is due to expire December • Multiple site analysis/evaluation conducted over past 20 years
Background – Milton • Consensus location, property owned by UVA • Replace current outdoor firing range with enclosed range • Convenience to all primary users 24/7 (ACPD, CPD, UPD) • Joint training opportunities within partnership, including scenario based indoor training • Site limited to indoor Firearms Training Facility • Limited scope of site work required
Regional Firearms Training Facility • The Building will contain two ranges (20-24 lanes), a multi-purpose classroom, bathroom and individual department storage space. • Shared operating costs. • Shared instructor knowledge and experience. • Shared development costs. • Project estimate: $4M to $5M • Current status: Awaiting bid proposals for A/E services. • Estimated completion: Fall 2015
Other Regional Training Needs • Complete the development and full implementation of the CSCJTA’s satellite training facility to support more advanced training. • Dedicated classroom and defensive tactics training area (Potential for incorporation into range facility depending on final project costs). • Vehicle Training Facility; including pursuit course, skid pad, and motorcycle training area.
