Methodology • Development of Check list for institutional survey • Check list in two parts • IAR4D Practice among partner institutions • IAR4D existence within institutions • Circulation and Modification of Check list • Data analysis • Participatory cross sectional review • Comments by core team members
Objectives • Entry points for IAR4D • Document work plans and budgeting cycles • Document Elements of IAR4D in institutions
Key findings • Collaboration • Informal • Initiated by individuals • Mutually beneficial • Easily dissolved but no defined period • Personal commitment and touch • benefits to individual and institution not clearly defined
Formal linkage • Can evolve from formal to informal • Can start administratively • Lifespan defined in agreement documents • Engagement is official • Personal commitment can not be assured
What other innovative structures of associating ? • A professional body recognized by the partner institutions? Medical and dentists board? • A structured meeting of partners to address common interest? Joint admissions board (JAB)? • Agriculture Sector Coordinating Unit ASCU? • Which way IAR4D and partner institutions?
Strategic plans • Have objectives addressing linkages • IAR4D elements, training, capacity building • Only KARI refers directly to IAR4D in SP. • Cross cutting issues • Gender mainstreaming • HIV and AIDs • Environmental issues • Poverty alleviation
Recommendations • Retooling courses in IAR4D for all partner institutions • Universities – incorporate IAR4D elements into, undergraduate and Post graduate curriculum • Short courses for other stakeholders • Need for partner institutions to continually engage in dialogue
